These two neighbouring hills are the smallest of the Glasshouse Mountains. They are situated just north of Caboolture – an hour north of Brisbane & 15 minutes from Caboolture. Their importance is not their imposing height or shape, but they are the southern most of the dozen Glasshouses; thus you can see all the other dominant Glasshouses laid out at your feet. You can not do this from any other point. There are also views of Caboolture & Brisbane beyond, the Bay Islands and the Blackall Range to the west.

We will park in the shadow of Mt Elimbah (also known as The Saddleback) at approx 10am, go through the gate and follow a fire trail for 10 minutes. The party will branch off from this and go bush to the lower end of the ridge – there is no track. The vegetation is low scrub and rough underfoot. The ascent is only 90m. It is a gradual walk to the top, which is rocky and open. It is about 45 minutes from the cars – depending on how many are going and their fitness/speed. Bring your camera for the photos from the top. The trip down is through a 3m cliffline via a crack in it. Then pushing through the scrub, back to a 4WD track and our cars.

A 10 minute drive takes us to Mt Miketee (I’m not going to spell it everytime). This time it is straight up all the way, following your nose to the top. Last year, everyone just raced up. There is no track, the vegetation is taller and more open at body level. There are rocks large and small on the way. The views from the top are as good, but you have to find the viewpoint through the trees.

After we return to Caboolture, we will have a coffee at the bakery - optional.

If people are willing, we will car pool from Caboolture.

Depending on how many nominate and bring cars, probably can provide transport from Red Hill and Caboolture for those without cars.

St Brigid’s is the big red brick church on top of the rise at Red Hill.

Bring a spare set of clothes for the trip home.

These two hills are within the capability of all but the slowest people.

So that I will not waste time at Caboolture, if you cannot attend, please let me know – whether before the day or on the morning of the walk itself.

The trip will go regardless of the weather.
